The past decade has been chock full of life changing events, both on a personal level and at the global level. Some have been offbeat and quirky kinds of things that nobody 20 years ago would have been able to even envision: did you ever think we would have a thing called an iPod? Or that we’d be attacked by Muslim extremists, leading our nation into a nearly thirteen year long war with several middle eastern nations? Or that Barack Obama would be President of the United States? I don’t think anyone would have believed any of it years ago, but just look at this recent span of history now and try to imagine if any one of these things hadn’t happened. It’s nearly impossible.

These are the events that have shaped the lives of people all around the world in the last ten years or so. How have they affected you? Your family and friends? The way you see the world around you? Let us hear from you.

Here at the Bug Toaster we are going to do something a little different. Yeah, it is going to be a tad silly and a whole lot of fun. I am pretty sure that you are going to love this story more than you have ever loved another story, ever. So, sit back and enjoy the wonderfulness that is Story Time Thursday!

A couple of years ago in a town that smelled of cheese called Fromage there was a wonderful family of ostriches that loved each other so very much. This family of ostriches was unlike any family in town because they were just so very close. The oldest of the three ostrich boys was called Rubio and he felt like it was the best job in the world to be a big brother. He decided that he never wanted to leave Fromage or his family until he met an Emu that changed his life forever.

The Emu’s name was Morena. She was the most beautiful Emu in the tri-county area. Morena was well-known for her piercing yellow eyes and her rich brown feathers. She came into Rubio’s world like a flash of lightning comes to the earth in the sky during a thunderstorm and Rubio was struck, love struck.

Rubio finally managed to get Morena’s attention and the two started to get really close. They eventually fell in love. Rubio was getting into trouble with his family though. He was missing family meals and not helping out with his younger brothers like he was supposed to. This upset his parents and they told Rubio that he could not spend all of his days with Morena. Of course, the thought of not being with Morena every waking hour crushed Rubio and he thought the only way they could be together would be to escape to the hills of Bon Bon where candy coats the hillsides.

Late one night the lovers secretly left their lives in Fromage. They snuck out of the locked vinyl windows quietly! After a few weeks in Bon Bon Rubio was reflecting and he really did miss his family back home. Morena could see it in his eyes and she knew just what to do. The next day Morena went back to Fromage to talk to Rubio’s parents about her plan. Everyone was happy and eager to implement the plan. When Morena returned to Rubio in Bon Bon she told him to pack his bags.

Rubio obliged and followed her to Fromage where they ended up at a church filled with family and friends. The two were married right then and there and moved into their new home in Fromage right by Rubio’s parents and brothers. And they all lived happily ever after…

Baby names are something people take very seriously, and for some reason, certain names for boys and girls tend to become popular every few years and stay that way for a while until they are replaced by other favorite names. The result is that you have a lot of people named Mandy, for example, who are all about the same age within a five year span. Or maybe a lot of Jacobs. Then those names are replaced by Taylor and Zachary, maybe. That’s kind of off the wall, and interesting to note in historic patterns. Let’s take a look at the baby names that were most popular in 2011.

The following infographic has a lot of the most popular names for babies from the past 12 months, but also has them broken down into categories like names that come from plants or animals. That makes it super interesting, and a tad strange, so we thought you might get a kick out of this, especially if you’re planning on naming any babies in 2012!

What is social media sites were your neighbors? Imagine for a moment that Twitter lives next door, and Facebook is right across the street. The real question here is, what would it be like if our social networking sites were actually our real lives. Life would be pretty funny at times, and possibly way out of control at others! And just think, if these social media sites really had their own human personalities and lived in houses close to yours, what would they be like as people?

According to this super fun infographic designed by Column Five Media, it would go something like this:

Facebook would have the biggest apartment, and it would be full of the most amazing and like minded people having great conversations, and you’d love being there — until your mom walks in!

Turntable.fm would be that really noisy neighbor you sometimes wish would take a long vacation out of town. Heck, you’d even buy them adt if it would get them gone!

YouTube would, of course, have lots and lots of cats.

Check out the infographic to see what life might be like with these sites for neighbors.

Stand Up Comedy is something that people have been doing for as long as I can remember. Stand up comedy isn’t like any other kind of comedy. It’s not like a funny movie where you can build a story line and incorporate funny role play and motives into the script. Stand up comedians don’t have the interaction between other people so creating a funny show is no easy task. When you think about being a comedian you would think that it’s one of those things that people can just do and not have to have education, or any kind of special skills to do it, but in reality not just anyone can be a stand up comedian. For one there is the task of actually standing up in front of a crowd of people and talking. Then you have to say something funny! Different groups of people will react to things differently so you might have to think on your feet when you are doing comedy.

This video shows Mitch Hedberg preforming stand up comedy for a group of people. Every comedian has their own style to the kind of comedy that they tell as well as the way that they present it. Some comedy is centered around a controversial issue while others rely on things of everyday life.

Enjoy– RIP Mitch Hedberg

Everyone knows about the new addicting game, angry birds. People everywhere have been consumed by this extremely addicting game. What started as a apple app has migrated into the android market, online, and now into stores as a stuffed animal and various Angry Bird toys. What started out as a simple game has spread all over the world to catch the attention of people of all ages, genders, and backgrounds. The first time I played the game I joined the addict list. I’m not an extremist like some people that play it nonstop and have to keep going to the next level before they can sleep at night, but I do want to win! I personally know some people that are extremely addicted to Angry Birds. When I saw this infographic showing facts and statistics that go along with the game I couldn’t help but to read along and find out why this game is so addicting. It was really interesting to see the type of people and percentages that are the most likely to be addicted to the game. Who know’s how long Angry Birds will in the spot light, but for the moment it is maintaining it’s spot at the top of the gaming list.

We all have heard the Japan earthquakes and the great devastation that it has caused. Japan has been hit by a number of very strong earthquakes in a very short amount of time. This has made scientists wonder what is going on that is causing such great earthquakes in that area as well as is there a threat for more in Japan, and in other locations around the world.

Earthquakes are caused by the Earth’s tectonic plates moving together and pulling apart. When they make these changes it changes the land and anything else that is located directly above and in the vicinity of the impact. Massive earthquakes are caused by a greater movement. There is obviously a higher risk for earthquakes in the places that are located above the fault line. The fault line is the location that two tectonic plates meet, which is also where they are going to move against and pull apart from each other creating disasters.

Cities were built right over top of these fault lines without knowing that they were there and once they were dicovered it was too late to move the entire city. Take a look at the what has been happening in Japan as a result of these massive quakes.

Let’s start with shoes since every girl loves her shoes. If you are looking for a pair of shoes that are sure to catch a few looks, these heels will do the trick! They are known as “the nicest heels on the block” (left) as they resemble a block of wood. These strange shoes are offered at $137.99. If walking on wood isn’t the way that you want to start your day, these shoes aren’t for you. If you are more into colorful shoes that catch the eye of others as soon as you walk in then you should give “Bridge Over Doubled Platform Heels” (right) a try. These shoes are designed to be ultra eye catching with a vibrant blue toe and creative wedge. These shoes are available for $196.99. If you are looking forward to towering over your friends without the hassle of worrying about tripping over everything. If your worried about your funky accessories getting stolen get a home security monitoring system.

Working your way up, the next eye catching accessory that you will find is leg warmers, and leggings. It’ll sure catch your eye to see hot pink leggings or electric yellow leg warmers paired with a unique outfit. Leggings and leg warmers are coming back into fashion. They have been part of the fashion statements made by the pop singer, Lady Gaga; who is known for always having an outfit worth talking about. If you catch hold of some of Lady Gaga’s funky outfits protect them with security monitoring.

To add some more glitz and glam to your already funky outfit, try a crazy handbag. Some people choose to keep their bags sleek and trendy, but what fun is that? Why not carry something that makes you say “WOW”? Also a great contribution to the funky look is a scarf. There are so many different types, colors, designs, and fabrics that make scarves so unique. They just might be the perfect funky accessory.

Now we’re moving to the jewels. The saying goes “diamonds are a girls best friend”, but if you are a girl who is looking to get some real attention you should sport some funky jewelry. How about finding earrings that are longer than your shoulders! Or maybe you want a necklace that is made of random rocks. If you don’t think that’s your style what about wearing 10 strings of beads that are all different lengths and colors. If that doesn’t catch someones eye, I don’t know what will. Spreading your individuality through your appearance is the easiest way to do so.

If you are ready to sport some funky accessories,do so proudly. If you just want to see some of the creative and crazy new styles that people are coming up with today, look for some of these items the next time you are in a crowd of people. Don’t be surprised if these looks grow on you.

“Laugh and the world laughs with you. Cry, and you cry alone.” Humor keeps us smiling, and in a good mood most of the time. Comedians live longer lives because they laugh a lot, and are around people who do the same thing. Bob Hope lived to 100. Milton Berle was 94. One of the funniest lines was told by comedian Joe E. Louis who ended many shows with: “If I’d known I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself.” He died at age 70.
Some of the best humor material many times is at the expense of senior citizens. Here’s an example.

Has anyone noticed that stairs are getting steeper, groceries more costly and heavier to carry, and everything seems so far away? Like yesterday. I was walking to my corner coffee place, and was dumbfounded to discover how long my street had become. And, something else. People are not very considerate these days; especially the young kids. They speak in whispers most of the time, and if you ask them to speak up, they just seem to keep repeating the same silent messages until they’re red in the face. Do they think I’m a lip reader? Another thing that really drives me up the wall is how many times in a normal conversation they keep using the words: like and ya know. They’re as bad as those people on the weather channel who totally abuse the words: right now. If you take those two words out of a telecast, they be stuck with nothing to say. Doesn’t anybody ever complain about all this stuff?

I ran into an old friend of mine the other day, and she had aged so much she didn’t even recognize me. I got to thinking about the poor dear lady while I was combing what’s left of my white hair, and, in doing so, glanced in the mirror at my own reflection. Hey, even mirrors are not made the way they used to be.

I had my drivers license renewed last week. I had to take it three times. Damn tricky questions they put in the exam. Maybe they want me to stop driving. Speaking of that, have you noticed everybody is driving so fast these days? Scary stuff. If you happen to pull onto the freeway in front of them you may be risking life and limb. Although, I did notice in my rear view mirror they are pretty quick to slam on their brakes, and skid into another lane to avoid me.

And those people who make bathroom scales really get me upset. Do they actually think I believe the number I see down below by my feet? Ha! I would never let myself weigh that much. I’d call them up and put in a complaint, but the telephone company is in on the conspiracy, too. The print in the phone book is so small you can’t find a number, let alone read it.
